Hebron Club Background:
The idea of a club in Hebron was first given impetus by a few adults there who wanted to establish what they saw had emerged in Ramallah with the Moataz Sarsour club.
With only a handful of hurls and sliothars, training was difficult and sporadic.
It was given another boost when Freddie from Waterford went over in May 2025 to coach the children and support the adults whilst bringing over vitally needed equipment to use.
His first coaching session was on May 1st, 2025, organized by two adults who have taken on the roles as coaches. Freddie had
with him 7 of his son’s hurleys and his own Hurley, 24 sliothers, bibs, cones, and 15 helmets.
Though his time there was short, it was at this time that the seeds were sown to help the club from its fledgling state.
Introducing the ancient warrior game to the children and adults in Hebron is an experience he will never forget. We, the Irish people, used Gaelic games to resist the illegal occupation of our country, so now we share it with the Palestinian people in Solidarity.
Freddie’s hope is that the Al Khalil Hurling club Palestine will grow like an olive tree, and it will bring joy to everyone who picks up a hurley in Hebron.
We are looking to increase participation by supplying much needed equipment of hurls, sliothers, and helmets to the club, and to improve the coaching of the children by increasing the number of the coaches there already, and improving their expertise.
We are also looking for coaches in Ireland to give online coaching, and if safe, travel to give in person coaching to all.
